“Never Abandoned and Destroyed” is a vivid image of a soldier who is facing a life-threatening attack from the enemy. The theme of this piece is inspired by the kind of attacks the apostle Paul described in his second letter to the Christians living in Corinth.
As followers of Jesus Christ, we’ve received so many blessings that fill our hearts with praise and thanksgiving towards God. But despite all that our God has done (and continues to do) for us, we are not shielded from troubles that come with living in a broken world. This brokenness sometimes causes us to be attacked and knocked down, but there is good news!
Our heavenly Father has given us victory, hope and power through Christ. As the apostle Paul declared, “we are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.” When we find ourselves under attack, God’s word encourages us to focus on the eternal rewards God will give us instead of life’s temporary troubles. Though this life is incredibly painful and confusing at times, we’re asking God to use this design to give you an eternal mindset and remind you that you’re never abandoned and destroyed in Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:8-9; 16-18
"We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever." (New Living Translation)
