Get In The Game

As Christians, we know the bible clearly teaches that no one can ever do enough “good deeds” to earn God’s forgiveness, approval, eternal life, and every blessing He gives us through our relationship with Jesus Christ. However, scripture also teaches that followers of Christ are known by their love and service towards others.

In other words, our actions are not about trying to earn God’s salvation. Instead, they are evidence of our salvation and God’s transforming work in our lives. When we help those in need, we’re worshipping and thanking God for what He’s already done for us. What an amazing privilege!

But perhaps, you may be asking yourself, “Don’t I need to obtain a lot of credentials, training and experience to make a meaningful impact in someone’s life?” Thankfully, the answer is NO!

We don’t need prior experience working in a vocational ministry role before God can use us. We don’t need to be “experts” or know how to carry out His assignment ahead of time. When we say “yes” to God, He will give us what we need because He wants to bring glory to Himself. He wants to show us and others there is no one like Him. The only thing God requires from us is that we trust Him and “get in the game” of loving and serving one another.

For His glory,

James 2:14-20
What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.” You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?” (New Living Translation)
